DRIPP DICKIE, WINE P.I., Somewhere in the World: What’s shakin’? D.D. here. On the case . . . of more New Mexico wines . . . hold on . . . just finishing up this lip-smacking “Black Beauty” – a chocolate-flavored, sweet red wine! Yikes! Goodness in a goblet! My sweet tooth thanks me . . . my vino buds hail my selection! When wine is this great, I wonder why J.Q. Public would choose anything else for the ideal BBQ beverage or perfect potable accent to that juicy steak. Must sleuth out the origins of why some people wine, some folks belly up to the beer barrel, and some of you guys just want a funny-sounding cocktail. Me? I crave a crisp sip of Black Mesa’s 2008 Chardonnay. Tastes of green apples with a touch of vanilla, and it’s lightly oaked for 3 months in used French oak. Yes, serve me some saucy grilled chicken with a side of seafood and shrimp, pronto!
I have a nose for a swell-scented bouquet of fine wine. Follow me (wear non-squeaky shoes, please) on the trail of the best new vintage in New Mexico wine country! (My snitches tell me it is hidden in the deep corners of Black Mesa Winery’s secret wine vaults in Velarde, New Mexico) Meet me there next week (wear a purple rose in your lapel or hair and flash the secret sign)!
